Personally, I am sick and tired of the United States government meddling more and more in our lives. The movie and music industry is using our elected officials like puppets (muppets) and we are sitting idly by and letting it happen. Well, I signed the petition, and my voice will be heard next election. G.R.I.P. – Get Rid of Incumbent Politicians. If we really want to make changes, we have to get those that pander to big business out of office and let them know that we have the power to do it. After all, they are there to represent Read More…
My Windows woes continue. This time around, I have been trying to upgrade my Laptop running Windows Vista to Windows 7 Professional. After initiating the upgrade process it would stall at 62% and give no indication as to what would cause the issue. Well, after a bunch of research and much less hair, I have an answer for you. In my efforts to get my company's demo rooms up and running with the solutions we offer to our customers, I have been faced with numerous Windows errors and issues. If you run your site on WordPress and using it as a content management system, you may have realized that there are categories of posts that you don't want published on your feed. There is no easy way to do this through WordPress by default, but that doesn't mean that this isn't possible to accomplish. You can eliminate certain categories easily by editing your theme's functions.php file. Read More...
In WordPress, there are two ways to display a summary of a post that I have found so far. Depending on your scenario you can use either php the_content('Read more...'); ?> or . I usually end up using both depending on the page that is being displayed and simply choose which with a "if, else" statement. In most scenarios it is better to use the excerpt function but the default character length is either too short or too long. The bad news for you is that there is no way to change this in WordPress without modifying some code. The good news is that you can do this by simply modifying your theme's functions.php file. As WordPress becomes more popular in the Web Designer circles (is that possible?), many of the functions we are looking for are simply not integrated by default. One of the functions I searched for for a long time was a way to filter comments so pingbacks and trackbacks wouldn't be displayed on my posts or pages. I personally don't care much for a list of websites linking to my post or article being shown and inundating the discussion with useless information. Read More...
Nothing ceases to amaze me anymore. Those of us that have relied on system manufacturers to provide us with clean systems, servers, and components "out of the box" now have a new wrinkle to iron out. If you have spent any money on a Dell server these days you may want to check your model... and receipt. It seems Dell has shipped some of their replacement motherboards for PowerEdge R410 Rack Servers with malware code in the flash storage on the motherboard. Read More...
I don't understand why things just can't seem to work seamlessly. Especially when you are talking about Microsoft Products. You would think that one Microsoft product would work without issue with another, and you would think that you are pretty much guaranteed that this would be the case when the Microsoft Product in question is installed through Windows Update. Enough of the babbling and on to the point... When installing updates for Windows Server 2003, I was pimp slapped with another error "The Requested Lookup Key Was Not Found In Any Active Activation Context". Read More...
Along with the migration of the PC from the home office to the living room comes a bunch of new challenges. Some of these challenges are simple and some are not so simple; one of my greatest challenges was controlling my HTPC from across the room. I will not accept having a wired keyboard and mouse attached to my HTPC nor will I suffer from relying on line of site wireless devices. With that said, a solution proposed itself in the form of the Rocketfish RF-BTCMBO2 Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse one day while I was strolling through Best Buy. Read More...
