Aero is Not Working on Windows 7 & Vista – Logmein

I am a long standing fan of Logmein and their services; I currently utilize their service on all of my PC’s and I am quite happy with their product.  However, if you are a user of the Logmein service and realize lately that Aero is not working on your workstation anymore, the mirror driver is to blame.

Logmein installs a mirror driver which is a display driver for a virtual device that allows services like VNC, Logmein, Radmin, and the like to display graphics from your desktop remotely.  This type of driver is activated when the service is initiated and sometimes the driver isn’t unloaded properly, thus creating a scenario where Aero isn’t supported.

A lot of times, simply rebooting can fix the issue with the Aero theme elements not being available.  However, in the case of Logmein there is a much simpler fix.  Sometimes when you initiate the connection to your system remotely the mirror driver doesn’t unload, and simply connecting to your computer remotely then properly disconnecting the session will unload the mirror driver properly.

In case your issue isn’t related directly to Logmein, you can try the following:

  • Click Start, type “Find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects” in the Start Search box, and then click Find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects.
  • A wizard window opens. Click Advanced if you want the problem fixed automatically, and then click Next to continue.

  1. I had the same problem as you but your solution didn't solve it.

The only that did for me is by going in Device Manager and right-clicking on "LogMeIn Mirror Driver and disabling it. And, more importantly I can still use LogMeIn on the computer in question with no problem at all.
