For a long time I had resisted converting my DVD and Blu-Ray disks into any other format because I didn’t want to lose any quality. I had lived by this rule for a long time, and thankfully companies like QNAP and Thecus came to my storage rescue. However, the day has come where the cost of storing all the extra garbage that comes along with these movies has opened my eyes to benefits conversions. With that, I have began converting my movie collection to a format that allows me to lose all the excess fat, but keep my movie loss-less. Read More…
Antec P180B
Today I'll be taking a look at the Antec P180 Advanced Super Mid Tower case from the Performance One series. First we'll look at a list of features from Antec. (more...)
Thermaltake Extreme Giant III
To start I would like to thank Xoxide for sending this cooler for review. The first thing I noticed after seeing the flashy packaging was how heavy this thing is. I really wasn't expecting a GPU cooler to be this heavy (490 grams). As you can see from the picture the packaging is very attractive and eye catching. My second impression was that this thing is huge. It has a blower fan along one edge that also makes it very tall. Rather than go into the detailed specifications you can view them here. It has Dual Heatpipes, two cooling fans, copper ramsinks and a fan controller included. The fan controller fits in a PCI slot and is controlled from the rear of the PC. I'm not so sure about how this will work out. I really don't like the idea of having to reach around to the back of my PC every time I need to adjust the fan speed or turn on the blower. The way some people setup their systems this would be a real pain. I'm thinking of modding the switch into an unused 3 .5 inch floppy bay. But that's a project for another day. (more...)
Logitech MX 700 Cordless Optical Mouse
Today I am reviewing a cordless optical mouse. The Logitech MX 700. I know what you're thinking "a mouse review?". I thought the same thing till I started using it. It's very comfortable and precise for an optical mouse. It is also a very good looking mouse. The silver and black theme will go with most aluminum or black system setups very nicely. Even more so if you just happen to be an Oakland Raiders fan.
The MX 700 comes complete with drivers and batteries (rechargeable NiMH). The base station serves as a recharger and receiver (RF rather than IR so line of sight is not required). It also has a whole butt load of buttons. (more...)
Acorp 6A815EPD
My review today is of a dual processor motherboard the ACorp 6A815EPD. It's an older type using Pentium 3 Processors rather than Xeon or AMD MP technology. The reason for me using this motherboard was the fact that Computer Geeks was selling these boards for $29.95 each. They must have had an inventory glut or something. But I'm not complaining the price was right! (more...)
Maxtor 3000LE External Hard Drive
Today I am reviewing the Maxtor Personal Storage 3000LE External USB 2.0 Hard drive. If you need some external, portable type storage this is just one of the solutions. The model I chose is a 40 GB unit it's also available in a 120 GB configuration. It is more expensive than an internal hard drive, but that's not the reason for choosing this product. For portable transfer of large files, it can't be beat. (more...)
Directron 8889-AL Aluminum Mid-Tower Case
Today I am reviewing an aluminum case made by Directron. For an aluminum case it is very nicely built with rolled edges and very few sharp protrusions. It has plenty of room for most users. It also has the advantages of some front ports for USB (2) and Firewire (IEEE1394). And it comes with a side window already installed. All this and more for under $100.00 shipped. (I think mine was right around $90.00 to my door.) (more...)
KDS CD Organizer
The other day I was doing an install on a new system and was looking for the software I needed to finish. It took me a good hour to find what I was looking for. Now normally I consider myself fairly well organized. But this was just unacceptable for me. I thought to myself "Man there has got to be something easier" then I remembered seeing this KDS CD Organizer someplace. So I did a little Googling and found it at Buy.com for the most reasonable price. I have done business with these people before, so after a few days I had it. (more...)
Asus P4B533
The Asus P4B533 I'm reviewing here is my own personal workstation. The board is version 3.0 with the 1006 BIOS. Supports socket 478 P4 processors up to 2.2 GHz+ with enhanced 533MHz FSB. (more...)

Joe DiFiglia
In early 2000 I became increasingly frustrated with hardware review sites praising less than satisfactory products. The saying: “if you want something done right, do it yourself” applies here. I wasn’t satisfied, so I did it myself; and here we are years later.
