Play .MKV’s in Windows Media Center (WMC)

For a long time I had resisted converting my DVD and Blu-Ray disks into any other format because I didn’t want to lose any quality.  I had lived by this rule for a long time, and thankfully companies like QNAP and Thecus came to my storage rescue.  However, the day has come where the cost of storing all the extra garbage that comes along with these movies has opened my eyes to benefits conversions.  With that, I have began converting my movie collection to a format that allows me to lose all the excess fat, but keep my movie loss-less. Logitech's newest Optical Engine comes out with a new look and added functionality. Whether your assembling a black or silver (aluminum) computer system, this mouse will compliment it perfectly.

The MX300 follows Logitech's previous mice design with some improvements. At the top, behind the two main buttons there is a small clear domed button called the Quick-switch Program Selector. This button allows you to switch between programs almost exactly like alt-tab does. Personally I find this button to be a bit out of the way. You have to reach far back with your index finger to press it. Also it has such a light click, at first you wonder if you pressed it. Next you find the black section around the Logitech logo on top of the mouse. This has a smooth rubberized feel, just enough that your hand can easily grip the mouse during movements. They did a very good job on incorporating the silver accents with the shape of the mouse. One thing I did notice while using the mouse, the red optical light does not brighten when you move the mouse like I've seen on past Logitech mice. (more...)

There are endless options when shopping for a computer case. You can choose a steel or aluminum chassis in most any color out there. The only thing that governs what you get is the price. But for those of us who want a nice case for little cost there is hope, and you don't have to settle for beige. Black cases are a great alternative and you can easily find accessories to match black rather than some off the wall color. Enter the Evercase ECE4252... (more...)

Can't find the right controller for all your PC gaming needs? Here is the answer to those woes. If you were ever a console gamer, you fell in love with the Playstation controllers (only because no one could ever pry one from your hands). The Axispad Colors is very similar to the controller we have become so comfortable with. (more...)

OK, you went into the local PC mega-retail store because you have been reading about these heatsink thingies on the 'net. You peruse the aisles of overpriced video cards, keyboards and floating, optical mice that know where you want to click before you do. Then you spot them. Those hunks of metal with the funny looking blades and some kind of fan on top. At least it looks like a fan; it's kinda small though.

They are supposed to be good for your computer. Gets rid of all that nasty heat that pours out of it like a radiator in a cramped efficiency in lower Manhattan. You know that heat is bad. Makes things melt. That can't be good for all those electronics inside the metal shroud called a case. But, which one do you get? There are 2 or 3 different ones to choose from and your knowledge on this subject is marginal, at best. Well, it's just a bunch of aluminum with a fan. There probably isn't much difference in them anyway. I will just go for the $15 one from Antec. It's called the Solution Series and it says, right on the box, it works for Intel and AMD CPU's up to the XP 2100+(not AMD approved though). Sounds all right to me. Let's head to the checkout and…hold it right there. (more...)
