Olympus DM-20 Digital Voice Recorder/Music Player/Data Storage

Extras/Goodies
One of the great things I have found with all my Olympus products is the amount of accessories or goodies they include with each one and this is no exception. As you can see from the pictures below, you get the recorder, remote control, USB cable, carrying strap, earphones, USB cradle, soft leather carrying case, software CD, quick setup guide, pictorial for case utilization, warranty/registration card and HUGE manual. The case is really nice because it incorporates all the elements of the complete unit in a tiny package. You can put the recorder, remote, earphones and extra batteries inside something the size of an average wallet. The cradle is another luxury for those that have USB connections on the rear of their machine. Never again will you have to lug your tower out to upload/download files. Leave the cradle installed and just drop the recorder into the receiver for quick access. This was a nice touch.

Conclusion
In summary, this is an all inclusive device that satisfies both the CEO and the PFY (BOFH reference). Weighing in at $270-$300 it’s not cheap, but considering it is doing triple duty it’s very affordable.

PROS

  • Versatile
  • Small/Lightweight
  • Easy to use and configure
  • With earphones it has good quality playback

CONS

  • Expensive
  • Limited equalizer/effects
  • Can be confusing even with instructions

It provides something for everyone whether you use mainly the voice, music or data functions. In the space of one day I used all three modes, literally within three hours from a meeting to downloading schematics to uploading my favorite Gypsy Kings tracks. Once you experience it, you’ll find it is invaluable. Of course, that’s just my opinion your mileage may vary.
