QNAP TS-451 Review

When cracked open, the clam shell reveals what makes the TS-451 tick. This NAS opens easily and is relatively simple when compared to its bigger brothers. The hard drive rack system removes for relatively easy QNAP supported RAM upgrades. Inside, QNAP was able to save some room by replacing the internal power supply unit found in some of their other 4-bay variants with an external power brick.

The 22nm 64-bit dual-core Intel Celeron processor is cooled passively by a retro style heatsink. The passive cooler reminds me of some old school chipset cooling we found years ago.  This is a stark contrast to the heatpipe cooling we found in the TS-470.

Last, but not least, is the YS Tech FD121225LB DC Fan. It is a Dual Ball Bearing fan that spins at 1800 RPM and pushes 73 CFM at 34 dbA.

ASUSTOR AS5008T Review

ASUSTOR has become one of my go to manufacturers for NAS. They have made some great NAS at some very affordable prices. Naturally, as time goes on, components are less expensive for consumers and for manufacturers. This allows NAS makers to pack more power into their storage appliances without increasing costs. In some cases, we are finding more powerful NAS at lower costs. To compliment this decrease in costs, production ramps up, R&D ramps up, and product enhancements increase. Ok, the point of all that? ASUSTOR has released a new 8-bay NAS, gave it more power, slapped a new name on it, and... lowered the cost. Enter the AS5008T.
