As Ed Norton would say “Helllllooo Ball.” So, on we go to the benchmarks. I have narrowed the competition for the drive to only a few drives. Why? Simply said, all the other drives I have from other manufacturers are not in the same category, league, or ballpark as these drives I have listed in these benchmarks. This was evident in the last HDD review conducted on the WD2500KS. These comparisons will increase with competitors as soon as those reviews are completed. That is a “coming soon” for you.
Here is a little pre-benchmark drive data for you to drool over.
The HD Tach benchmark returns a very interesting result here. As you can see, the drive nearly reaches is 150 MB/s specification. This is probably the closest I have seen a drive come to performing at what it’s rated at. This is an amazing display for this drive, or any drive for that matter. It even beats out its Raptor Counterpart (WD740GD).
Random access time seems to be right on with previous test results.
CPU usage is the lowest of all the drives tested. Using only 6% CPU during testing, that’s a nice number to have, especially while I am stomping out the competition on Need For Speed: Most Wanted.
It is nice to see that the 400gig drive here reads a little faster than the 250gig drive sporting the 300MB/s interface. The Raptor’s in RAID… WOW!!
