I am not going to give you an in-depth complaint article on the challenges with Legion Space on the Legion Go, but I will offer you this: it would be much better if they presented you with your library before they presented you with the game store. I understand there is a huge “Library” button right in the middle of the application, but not presenting me with my library right off the bat is a miss, for me anyway. Luckily, the open source community once again comes to the rescue. You can ditch Legion Space and get an enjoyable experience all without much effort. If you are a worried or inexperienced PC user, this is probably one of the easiest things you can do to make your Legion Go experience much better.
So, what is Playnite? Per the website:
Playnite is an open source video game library manager with one simple goal: To provide a unified interface for all of your games.
First of all, installing applications and managing your Legion Go is much easier with a keyboard and mouse. Navigation on the device is adequate with the touchpad, buttons, and on screen keyboard, but nothing can replace a good old fashioned keyboard and mouse. See my Ditch the Desktop – Legion Go as your PC – Part 1 article for some of the products I use.
How to install and configure Playnite for the best experience
First, configure Windows to NOT boot automatically into Legion Space
Open your browser, visit the Playnite Website and download the installer
Once downloaded, run the downloaded executable and follow the prompts to completion.
Now that Playnite is installed, there are a few things you need to do to finalize things.
- Click the image of the controller in the upper left hand corner.
- Choose “Settings”
- Select Launch in Fullscreen Mode
- Select Launch Playnite when you start your computer
