Legion Go – Fix XBOX Application Update Required

After leaving my Retroflag GPi Case on the shelf for years, packed with all the geeky emulation I could ever want. Valve updated their Steam Deck, Asus unveiled their ROG Ally, and Lenovo introduced the Legion Go. This year, I finally decided to indulge myself in handheld gaming once again.

For me, the choice was clear: I ordered the new Steam Deck OLED and the Legion Go, getting everything I could ask for. After a few bucks and a lot of anticipation, I’ve got the Legion Go in hand, while my Steam Deck OLED is still on the truck for delivery.

Right out of the box, things went relatively smoothly. I installed all my apps, set up Steam, and even replaced my laptop essentials like Filezilla, Tailscale, OpenVPN, Notepad++, and WireGuard.

Then came the gaming setup. LegionSpace opened, a few clicks were made, but the Xbox app refused to cooperate, claiming it needed an update without offering one via the Windows Store. Thinking it was a faulty install, I removed the app, only to find myself unable to reinstall it. Despite two OS reinstalls, the stubbornness continued!

I tried everything—fiddling with time settings, rebooting, scouring forums—nothing worked. I was on the verge of returning it, until I did something that worked. I manually downloaded the latest Xbox app and installed it. That simple action fixed everything.

Now I am up and running and will likely end up keeping the Legion Go. So, how did we do that? It was really easy actually.

  1. Access the Xbox app’s direct URL: Go to https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9MV0B5HZVK9Z?hl=en-us&gl=US
  2. Copy the URL: Highlight the URL and right-click to copy it.
  3. Use the Microsoft Store URL converter: Visit https://store.rg-adguard.net/.
  4. Paste the URL: In the search box on the Adguard Store, paste the copied URL.
  5. Choose the correct version: Select the option with the largest file size from the list.
  6. Download and install: Click on the selected option to download the Xbox app.
  7. Enjoy your gaming experience!
