Essential Windows 7 Tweaks: Part 3

12. Pin your Recycle Bin to the taskbar

I have seen many examples of people just adding a shortcut to the recycle bin on their task bar without the ability to right click and empty trash.  This takes it one step farther and gives you the full recycle bin functionality.

  1. Open My Computer and open Local Disk (C:)
  2. Right click and select New -> Folder and name it Trash
  3. Drag the Recycle Bin into your new Trash Folder to create a new shortcut inside.
  4. Unlock the Taskbar by right clicking on it and choosing Lock the taskbar
  5. Right click on the taskbar and select Toolbars then New toolbar
  6. Right click on your new toolbar titled Trash Bin and uncheck Show Text and Show Title
  7. To make the icon larger, right click on the separator and click View then Large icons
  8. Lock your taskbar again by right clicking and selecting Lock the taskbar

  1. You know how you view a folder in details mode, the columns are squished by default and it leaves this useless white space on the right? When I right click the top columns it allows me to automatically resize all columns to fit. The problem is I have to do this for every folder manually. Is there a way to have it to that by default? Some sort of registry hack?
