Logitech Z-5300 5.1 Speaker System

Each speaker is branded with a placement designation on the back and color coded RCA’s allow even the most technically challenged connect their surround sound system seamlessly without hiccups. Although the cable lengths are generous all the way around, it would be nice to have wireless rear speakers.

Gaming is insane! I have a couple of games that I play on a regular basis; one of them being Need for Speed: Underground and another being Tactical Ops: Assault on Terror. NFSU is a THX certified game and playing it on THX certified speakers makes for one hell of a race. Audio is crisp and spatial sounds are right on target. The game features a robust soundtrack with plenty of bass lines and audio drops. Distortion isn’t a factor with these as I have had my engines revving at almost full volume.

Tactical Ops: Assault on Terror is an Unreal Tournament modification and spatial sounds are as important as being able to aim your gun. Hearing the sounds of the enemy coming around the corner in 5.1 surround sound with bullets whizzing around you is NUTS!

For those of us that could be looking for speakers to complete their HTPC project, the Z-5300’s might be an excellent middle road choice. Even though my DVD collection may be lacking, I still have some kick ass movies: Snatch, The Boondock Saints, Usual Suspects, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and the ever popular Rocky Collection. I was IMPRESSED!

Now, my neighbors hate me, not for my late night gaming sessions, not for my TV watching, but mainly for my MP3 collection. There is nothing better then jamming out while writing reviews, papers, napping, or playing a little Al Green to set the mood. Tones are on point and the music just sounds great. I have played everything from the classic 2 Live Crew, Grand Master Flash; well, you get the point and I didn’t get any distortions until the volume was WAY up!

In a stiff market for speakers, I think that Logitech has done a fine job in giving us some great speakers at a good price. Aside from me wanting a wireless remote and some wireless rear speakers, I can’t find any faults with this system. These speakers can definitely cut the mustard as PC speakers or even as the uuumph behind your HTPC system. Have fun, play hard, listen loud, and don’t answer the door if the boys in blue are out there!
