OCZ Vector SSD Review

Benchmarking the drive will be done on our Bench Rig and we will be using various types of software to determine the performance of the Crucial M4 SSD. The software used will be: AS SSD, CrystialDiskMark, Anvil, IOMeter, ATTO, and PCMark’s Vantage running the HDD Suite.

Bench rig:

  • Gigabyte 880GA-UD3H
  • AMD Phenom II X4 965
  • 2x2GB Patriot Sector 5 PC3-12800
  • Crucial M4 128GB SSD
  • Lian Li PC-6 (click to read our review)
  • BFG LS-450
  • Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

AS SSD is a small but powerful SSD benchmarking utility created specifically for that purpose. The software uses “incompressible” data to benchmark your drive without the benefits of compression that may increase performance under certain circumstances.

Overall, the Vector scored much higher than the Crucial M4 SSD in this benchmark without breaking a sweat. Individually, the Vector was able to log a 359 Read and a 283 write compared to the Crucial’s 305 Read and 243 Write.

We love speed... and after reviewing the Samsung 840 Pro, we were chomping at the bit to get the 840 EVO in the lab. Not only does the newer EVO model use newer 19nm 3-bit Triple-Level Cell vs that of 2-bit MLC found in the 840 Pro, but it also features a much more attractive price-point and an increased IOPS... on paper.
