QNAP TS-269 PRO NAS Review

To further enhance your experience, QNAP has gone the extra mile. Packed into this little two drive wonder is the ability to replace your current HTPC or media streamer.  The TS-269 PRO has QNAP’s integrated HD Station.

Create your own cinema quality movie experience at home! Coupled with the built-in XBMC media player, HD Station allows you to easily browse your movie collection and playback in full 1080p. In addition to videos you could also view all your photos and music on your big screen. Browsing the Internet and YouTube is also available for you to access straight from the remote control. Take a look at this short video and see what HD Station can do for you.

Enjoy a Full HD movie experience on the big-screen TV via HDMI. A cinema-grade entertainment experience at home has never been easier – now featuring the Turbo NAS. The addition of an HDMI port and QNAP’s new HD Station turns the Turbo NAS into an amazing multimedia player. By installing the free HD Station application and connecting the Turbo NAS to a big-screen TV via HDMI, you can easily enjoy the vast video, music and photo collections stored on the Turbo NAS, surf the web, and even control the entire experience from your mobile phone or tablet. Enjoying Full HD experience is just that easy!

Much of my concern with running the QNAP as my primary media center had been the lack of controls.  Although there are a number of ways to control the NAS, like keyboard and mouse, Android and iOS apps… there was something missing.  UNTIL NOW!!! QNAP has added to its TS-269 PRO’s product page, the brand new QNAP branded Infrared Remote control.

Having a dedicated remote control pulls the geek out of the equation and replaces it with practicality that anyone in your home can use.

Unfortunately, the remote isn’t available here yet, but we have QNAP’s promise that we will get a good look at one as soon as they do become available.  For more on XBMC, visit XBMC.org

ASUSTOR AS5008T Review

ASUSTOR has become one of my go to manufacturers for NAS. They have made some great NAS at some very affordable prices. Naturally, as time goes on, components are less expensive for consumers and for manufacturers. This allows NAS makers to pack more power into their storage appliances without increasing costs. In some cases, we are finding more powerful NAS at lower costs. To compliment this decrease in costs, production ramps up, R&D ramps up, and product enhancements increase. Ok, the point of all that? ASUSTOR has released a new 8-bay NAS, gave it more power, slapped a new name on it, and... lowered the cost. Enter the AS5008T.
