QNAP TS-269 PRO NAS Review

What you have here in the TS-269 PRO is a master piece.  This unit has everything you want, and more.  The unified firmware means that you will instantly find yourself at home moving from an older QNAP NAS to this one.  The additional applications that are available through the QPKG really extend the functionality QNAP has already built into their firmware.  With one of the largest 3rd party databases and a huge following, you can pretty much bet your last dollar that there will be plenty more to come.

As far as performance, this unit screams.  With write speeds of 110.81 MB/s and read speeds of 107.06 in RAID 0, you can rest assured that your files will be delivered quickly.  RAID 1 speeds were still impressive given the slow nature of RAID 1.

I don’t think I can say enough about this unit.  It is the perfect size for a small business, your home, or the small home office.  It offers everything that you could ask for, it has a large following, and it looks fantastic.  Given the hardware packed into the TS-269PRo, its speeds, and the HDMI port it; isn’t too hard to justify the price tag ($599.99 USD).  This device can move data quickly for your business with its more powerful processor, increased RAM (expandable), and its support for faster drives.  In the home this 2 bay unit can replace an HTPC completely; it runs XBMC, supports TV tuners, has a built-in browser, it takes up very little space, and having a QNAP remote control available means that it will be easy use.

ASUSTOR AS5008T Review

ASUSTOR has become one of my go to manufacturers for NAS. They have made some great NAS at some very affordable prices. Naturally, as time goes on, components are less expensive for consumers and for manufacturers. This allows NAS makers to pack more power into their storage appliances without increasing costs. In some cases, we are finding more powerful NAS at lower costs. To compliment this decrease in costs, production ramps up, R&D ramps up, and product enhancements increase. Ok, the point of all that? ASUSTOR has released a new 8-bay NAS, gave it more power, slapped a new name on it, and... lowered the cost. Enter the AS5008T.
