Speeze EE475B13 Copper Snake III

The fan cooling this thing is quiet, spinning at 2300RPM, and pushing 25 CFM it moves air across the fins to cool our beloved CPU. For those of you who care about things like power consumption of your fans, it uses only 1.56 W. This unit uses a nicely sleeved 3 pin connector to get its power from your mainboard.

Everything one needs to install this cooler is provided, including the thermal compound, and a nice little case badge to advertise that you spent your money with Speeze. The retention mechanism common to the socket 478 is simple to apply. There was so little pressure needed I had to make sure I had a proper connection twice! One of my favorite things about a small, quiet heatsink, aside from the lack of noise, is how unobtrusive it is. When installed, it doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb. It does its job, happily.

Now comes the time when we see how well it does that job. My testing is simple. I don’t have a magically climate controlled room to test these things in. I don’t have a bunch of fancy equipment to mimic a processor heating up. I simply have my processor, my thermometer, and my Folding@Home. Temperatures are taken at various times and CPU usage percentages are either at 0 or 100%. Ambient temperature and case temperature are the same, in this case anyway.

From the chart above, we can see that the $20.00 AeroFlow cools a little better than the Speeze competitor, however, the Speeze is a little quieter. What does this all mean? It means, simply, that this is a good heatsink for those of us who are seeking a quiet solution. The EE478B13 is so quiet in fact that I couldn’t find it on many of the popular sites we purchase from. Would I buy one? Maybe if I could find one to buy.
