Turn an HP SFF Computer Into a Great HTPC

DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING! DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. TAKE ALL THE NECESSARY SAFETY PRECAUTIONS. DISCONNECT THE PC FROM POWER.

Your multimedia station elite comes with a 24 pin adapter with a 3 pin adapter running from it.  We need to clip the wires from this so that we have the 3 pin adapter alone.  Once this is free strip the ends so you have bare wires to connect with.  The HP power supply connector has a latch on one side and not on the other.  The side we are concerned with has NO latch.  Looking at it, there are 3 wires we need and they are on the far right.  From farthest right to left: Purple, Black, Red.  These match up with those on the Antec 3 pin power adapter.  Splice these together however you wish.  I used crimping clamps instead of solder only because I couldn’t find my soldering iron.

Next is the 2 pin power adapter to power the PC from standby or off.  Your Antec comes with an adapter for your motherboard, but the HP doesn’t have standard connections.  The easy way around this is to utilize the power button on the front of the PC.  The HP has a power button up front with two white wires coming from it.  Cut these and splice in the black and red wires from the 2 pin adapter.  If you are looking down at the adapter still in the case, the black wire connects to the wire on the right and the red to the wire on the left.

The rest of the installation is normal and you can follow the manual.

I have always had an HTPC as my home theater's centerpiece. The flexibility that an HTPC brings simply can't be matched by the likes of WD TV Live, Apple TV, or any Roku. I have the ability to spin a disc, play my enormous library of music and movies, and watch live TV. The only thing that had been holding my HTPC back from being adopted as the primary solution by my fiance was a keyboard and mouse. In order to rid my self of our cable box, I had to find a solution that anyone could use, including my technophobic fiancé.
