Western Digital WD2500KS

You can see here, with HD Tach, that the burst rate of this drive really pulls away from the other drives. This drive doesn’t burst close to its theoretical limit, but it beats the other drives by quite a bit.

Most of us would expect the Raptor drive to lead that pack as this chart indicates, but the SE16 drive didn’t drag behind by too much. I would like to see some better performance here as this drive wasn’t a great distance ahead of an older Maxtor drive.

Higher is better when it comes to sustained average read, and we can see here that even though this drive sports 300GB/s, it doesn’t perform any better than my current favorite and chart topper.

The Raptor simply blows away everything tested. This testing confirms that the HD Tach registered times were no fluke, and that this drive just barely beats out some of the older drives.
